Here are some pictures of recent "guests" at our Backyard Bird Cam as captured through the lens of the Bird Cam. Where possible, links to additional information for each bird are provided. Please let me know if there's a case of "mistaken identity." E-mail: pvelte@cox.net

Thanks to Chris Velte for catching this Bird Cam picture. Looks a lot like the bird on our logo.

< White-winged Dove
It seems unusual for a dove to be at the feeder, but this bird seems happy to be sharing the perch rather than feeding from the ground.
American Goldfinch >
This bird made a brief but very welcomed visit to the sunflower seed feeder,  perhaps after checking out the thistle feeder.

(Male) Recognizable by its pale yellow eye, this is one species that arrives in large numbers and sends the cats running for cover.
House Sparrow >
(Male) Although a common site in yards, the House Sparrows are always welcome at our feeders since they are never camera shy.

Brown-headed < Cow Bird
(Male) Distinctive for the golden color on his head. He's a bird who also likes to watch himself in any nearby mirror.
Dark-eyed Junco >
Usually a "scratcher" on the ground, this Junco joined the sparrows at the feeder during a snow storm.

< Carolina Chickadee
Makes a very quick attack for a sunflower seed and then speeds to a nearby tree to eat.
House Finch >
(Male) Another bird on our wish list for better bird cam pictures!

< Common Grackle
A stand-off at the bird feeder! The Bird Cam captured these grackles as one "puffed up" and the other flashed its iridescent throat color to intimidate the challenger.
European Starling >
The familiar Starling joins the sparrows at the feeder. Neither species is known for its manners at the feeders!

< Squirrel
A voracious eater, he can quickly empty a feeder. We're hoping he'll spend more time at the corn feeder!
